Overall Career
He was one of the few bright spots on the Devil Rays roster until his inexplicable trade in 2006 to the Los Angeles Dodgers, which sapped his mojo and turned him bad for a while.
Lugo began 2007 alright, but swooned after mid-May, watching his BA fall below the Mendoza Line. However, he has picked his game up with some clutch home runs, and as of July 23 he is in the middle of a 12-game hitting streak, having not suffered a hitless game since before the All-Star Break. Although not known among the most proficient shortstops in the majors, he does have a .976 fielding average for 2007 to date, the best of his career.
Moment in the Sun
- In 2001, Lugo hit leadoff home runs in back to back games against the Cincinnati Reds.
- On June 24, 2004, Lugo set a Tampa Bay Devil Rays club record for hits in a game, in a 5-7 effort against the Toronto Blue Jays.
- On July 20, 2007, he hit a grand slam against the Chicago White Sox, one of many statements made as the Red Sox took three of four in the series.
Trivia
- Older brother of reliever Rudy Lugo.
- Finished fourth in the American League in stolen bases (39) in 2005.
Awards
