- In his official rookie year with the Red Sox in 1972, Curtis won 10 starts. No Red Sox rookie lefthander has won as many starts since. Jon Lester has come closest to date, winning seven starts in 2006.
- Curtis won at least 10 games in five seasons: 1972 Red Sox (11 wins), 1973 Red Sox (13 wins), 1974 Cardinals (10 wins), 1979 Giants (10 wins), 1980 Padres (10 wins).
- On July 7, 1973, Curtis went the distance in a complete game nine hitter, beating the White Sox 7-3.

- Curtis wore #44 in his one appearance with the 1970 Red Sox before switching to #22 for the 1971-1973 seasons with the Sox.
- Curtis threw three no-hitters as a freshman at Clemson.
- In the 1967 Pan American Games, he became the first American pitcher to defeat the Cubans.
