Overall Career
Drafted by the Atlanta Braves in 1996, Nelson made his major league debut in 2001, giving up 8 earned runs in 2 innings. He was signed by the Boston Red Sox on March 30, 2004 as a free agent. After his call-up from Pawtucket in 2004, Nelson would go on to record a 16.87 ERA in 2.2 innings. His most noteworthy feature was a pitch he called "the Vulcan". He earned a World Series ring for his memorable contributions to the 2004 Red Sox World Series squad.
On July 18th, 2006, Nelson was recalled from Triple-A Omaha by the Kansas City Royals, reuniting him with fellow 2004 World Series participant Doug Mientkiewicz. Some may argue that they never actually played together so they aren't really being reunited, but they were probably still friends or at least acquaintances.
