Overall Career
James Erigena Barrett was born on March 28, 1875, in Athol, MA. Barrett was 24 years old when he broke into the big leagues on September 13, 1899, with the Cincinnati Reds.
Barrett had a 10-year career as an outfielder. In 866 games be batted .291 with 962 hits, 16 HR and 255 RBI. A solidly built lefthanded hitter, Barrett had an exceptional arm and led outfielders in assists in three of the first four AL seasons. He twice led the league in drawing walks. A knee injury ended his career prematurely.
