Overall Career
James Benson Brillheart was born on September 28, 1903, in Dublin, VA. Brillheart was 18 years old when he broke into the big leagues on April 17, 1922, with the Washington Senators. Brillheart had a 4-year career as a pitched. He finished with a record of 8-9 with 98 Ks and a 4.19 ERA in 286.0 innings.
He was the youngest player in the American League in 1922 at 18 years old. Brillheart spent only parts of four seasons in the ML, but his career lasted from 1921 (with Greenville, SC of the Sally League) through 1946 (with San Diego of the Pacific Coast League). He is one of the few pitchers to work in over 1,000 games - 928 in the minors and 86 in the majors.
