Overall Career
Jesse Cail "The Crab" Burkett was born on December 4, 1868, in Wheeling, West Virginia. Burkett was 21 years old when he broke into the big leagues on April 22, 1890, with the New York Giants.
Burkett enjoyed a 16-year career and an outfielder. In 2066 career games, he finished with a .338 average, 2850 hits, 75 HR and 952 RBI. After leaving the ML, Burkett owned and managed the Worcester club of the New England League from 1906 to 1913. He later managed other minor league clubs and coached several college teams. In 1921, he coached for John McGraw's New York Giants
