Jeff Frye wore the number 3 for the Boston Red Sox during the 1996-2000 seasons. He was signed by the Sox on June 5, 1996 after being released by the Texas Rangers. His Red Sox career ended on July 27, 2000 when he was traded to the Colorado Rockies along with John Wasdin, Brian Rose and minor leaguer Jeff Taglienti for Rolando Arrojo, Rich Croushore, Mike Lansing and cash.

Overall Career

Frye's career in the majors started in 1992 with the Texas Rangers. Over his career, he played in 667 regular season games, with lifetime .290 AVG, .357 OBP, .386 SLG and a .743 OPS. He finished his career with 16 major league home runs and 194 RBI's. A very versitile player, he played games at all positions except for pitcher and catcher.

Frye's Moment in the Sun

  • Frye's most memorable moment came on June 14, 1999. With the Red Sox trailing the Minnesota Twins 3-2 heading into the bottom of the ninth, Darren Lewis and Jeff Frye hit back to back solo home runs to win the game 4-3.

Trivia

  • One of only two players in Toronto Blue Jays history to hit for the cycle.
  • After retirement from baseball Frye started a baseball representation agency.
