Scouting Report

  • Lowrie is an intelligent shortstop with a decent glove and average range. His arm is strong but he needs to work on his throwing accuracy. May be moved to 2B, but his strong work ethic and improving defense is increasing the chances he could stick at SS, where he could probably play the position adequately at the MLB level. Above average speed on the basepaths. He demonstrated plus power for a middle infielder in college, but at this point he looks to have doubles power and not a lot of home run pop. Hits for average very well, and equally from both sides of the plate. Outstanding plate discipline, in true Red Sox form his best attribute may be his ability to work pitchers for good at bats. Fundamental and athletic. Lowrie could use another half-season at AAA, but if he played for a smaller market team he would probably start the 2008 season in the majors. ~ SoxProspects.com
  • Excellent fielder with a strong arm and above average range. Many scouts claim that he will be better suited at second base down the line. Above average speed on the basepaths. Previously demonstrated good power for a middle infielder. Hits equally from both sides of the plate. Outstanding plate discipline. Smart and athletic. Struggled through injuries for most of the 2006 season.

  • Rated as the 41st best prospect for the 2005 Draft by Baseball America. Won the Pac-10 triple crown in 2004. His numbers regressed his junior year, hitting .328 with 12 homers and 57 RBIs.
