Amateur Career

Drafted 28th overall in the 1982 Amateur Draft, one pick after Dale Sveum, Jeff Ledbetter was a potent college bat. At Florida State in 1981 he batted .333 with 23 homers and 95 RBIs. Drafted in the fourth round by Montreal in 1981, Ledbetter instead chose to remain at Florida State for his senior season in order to play a season with his brother. In 1982, he had one of the best offensive seasons in college, hitting 42 homers (breaking the record by 13) with 124 RBis and a .389 mark. As a pitcher, he was 10-1, earning Baseball America's College Player of the Year honors. He set the career record of 97 homers, 33 more than the old record, and 342 career RBIs also broke the record.

Pro Career

Assigned to A ball, he hit only .238 with 7 homers and 28 RBIs. He hit .274 with 9 homers in 1983 in the Florida State League, and was promoted to AA New Britain in 1984. There, he led the team with 12 homers, but hit only .214. After the season he asked for his release, and he was released in 1985.
