Overall Career
Jason Bay was an unheralded 22nd round pick in the 2000 amateur draft, who was eventually traded three times before landing with the Pirates where he would build his career. In his first full season in Pittsburgh, Bay won the 2004 National League Rookie of the Year with 25 first place votes beating runner up Khalil Greene by a wide margin. Over the next two seasons Bay continued hitting well, with two all-star appearances and a 144 OPS+ between 2005 and 2006. He stumbled in 2007 hitting only .247 with 21 home runs but returned to his old form in 2008 where midway through the season he was involved in a three team swap where the Red Sox essentially acquired him for Manny Ramirez, Craig Hansen and Brandon Moss. He finished the season hitting .293/.370/.527 for Boston before turning in an impressive performance hitting .341/.471/.634 in the 2008 postseason. As of June, 2009 Bay's future with the Red Sox in undecided as he will be a free agent in 2010, but most observers believe he and the club will be able to reach an agreement during the offseason.
