Professional Career
Stahl was a catcher for the Boston Americans during the 1903 season before being sold to the Washington Senators. In Washington, Stahl became a regular first-baseman, and in the 1905 and 1906 season, served as player-manager for the Senators. After two consecutive seventh-place finishes, Washington sold Stahl to the Chicago White Sox in March of 1907. Following the 1907 season, Stahl was part a three-team deal that sent him to the New York Highlanders. In July of 1908, he was purchased by the Boston Red Sox, where he spent the next 4 years. In 1912 and 1913, Stahl served, once again, as player manager. This time he was a bit more successful, leading the Red Sox to the 1912 World Series title.
After a falling out with teammates, Stahl resigned and retired halfway through the 1913 season.
