Scouting Report
- Cowan's arsenal includes a 88-91 mph fastball with good movement and command, a mid-to-high 70s 12-to-6 curveball, and a mid 70s changeup. His two seam fastball has decent sink. His curveball ad changeup are advanced for his age, but both lack full control and consistency. Clean delivery from a 3/4 arm slot. While Cowan is advanced for his age, he may not be projectable as other high school pitchers as some scouts feel he has maxed out his velocity due to his smaller frame. However, Cowan believes he can add size and muscle easily in the near future. Slipped in the draft due to signability concerns, originally projected to go in the late second to early hird round. ~ SoxProspects.com
- Jake Cowan is a 2007 RHP with a 6' 2", 165 lb. frame from Roswell GA, who attends Roswell HS. Tall, lanky projectable body. High leg kick with body turn, stays balanced well. Throws downhill. FB mostly 88, touched 90 with run. Very good CB, sharp downer break at 73-75 mph. Plus control of CB. Have seen sharper many times this summer, still very good. Premium prospect. ~ PerfectGame.org
