Overall Career
His only major league time was with the Red Sox in 1918. He played 18 games at third base -- one of nine different players the Red Sox tried at third that season. Stansbury also played two games in center field, filling in for Babe Ruth after the slugger walked out on the team around the 4th of July holiday.
Stansbury batted .128 (6-for-47) -- he got to play in the bigs solely because of the shortage of talent during World War I.
Early in his minor league career, Stansbury was a catcher and third baseman, playing for many teams in the minors, including New Orleans, Shreveport, Louisville, Williamsport and Houston.
After his baseball days, he was employed by the Magnolia Refinery Company in Beaumont, Texas. Stansbury died in Easton, PA, on December 26, 1970.
