John Joseph O'Brien was born on February 5, 1873, in Watervliet, NY. O'Brien was 26 years old when he broke into the big leagues on April 14, 1899, with the Washington Senators.
A journeyman outfielder at the turn of the century, O'Brien was used twice as a pinch hitter by the Red Sox in the first World Series without a hit. O'Brien had an 4-year career with Washington, Cleveland, and Boston. His finished his career by playing 326 games with a .259 average, 9 HR, and 133 RBI.
