Overall Career

Cressend was signed by the Boston Red Sox as an amateur free agent in 1996. Between 1996 and 1999 Cressend advanced as high as Trenton, but never established himself as a consistent starter, consistently hovering around a .500 winning percentage. He was claimed off waivers by the Minnesota Twins on April 22, 1999, where he pitched at AAA Salt Lake before he joined the Twins for 11 relief appearances in the 2000 season, amassing a 5.27 ERA. He would appear in 44 and 23 games in 2001 and 2002, respectively. On October 17, 2002 Cressend was selected off waivers by the Cleveland Indians from the Minnesota Twins. He was effective in 2003, compiling a 2.51 ERA in 33 appearances. In 2004, he split his time betwwen AAA and the Indians, with less-than-impressive results.

On January 7, 2005 he signed as a free agent with the Boston Red Sox. In 2005, he appeared in 40 games with the Pawtucket Red Sox and finished with a 5.06 ERA. In January 2006, he was signed by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays to a minor league contract and invited to spring training. The Devil Rays reassigned Cressend to their minor league camp on March 11, 2006.
