Overall Career
A slugging first baseman from Alabama, Baker was drafted by Boston in the 26th round of the 1971 amateur draft. He made his major league debut with the Red Sox as a late season callup in 1976 after leading the International League in home runs with 36. He came up to the Sox after they had been eliminated from the pennant race, and on September 23 hit a home run at Fenway off Milwaukee starter Bill Travers. He retired the next season after appearing in two games. A few years later Baker tried to get the film of his home run for his kids to have. Unfortunately, neither team covered the game on TV, so he has not been able to find it.
In 26 at-bats, Baker had 3 hits, 1 home run, 2 RBI, 1 walk and 5 strikeouts.
