Ian Bladergroen (born February 23, 1983 in Atlanta, Georgia) was acquired from the New York Mets in January 2005 for Doug Mientkiewicz. Bladergroen was once considered a solid power first base prospect before injuries derailed his progress. The tall lefty hit .242/.353/.408 with 33 extra base hits (20 doubles, 4 triples and 9 home runs) in a career-high 331 at-bats in Wilmington in 2006.
With Aaron Bates and Lars Anderson tearing the cover off the ball at Lancaster and Greenville, the Red Sox released Bladergroen on May 5, 2007.
Scouting Report
From Sox Prospects: "Left-handed aggressive hitting first baseman with through-the-roof power potential. Average contact, average plate discipline, and an average glove. Missed half of the 2004 season after undergoing wrist surgery in July. Projects well if he gets beyond his injury."
Trivia
- Rated as the best defensive first baseman in the Carolina League by Baseball America in 2006.
