Howard Edward "Sponge" Storie was born on May 15, 1911, in Pittsfield, MA. Storie was 20 years old when he broke into the big leagues on September 7, 1931, with the Boston Red Sox. Storie had a short 2-year career, all with the Red Sox, as a back-up catcher. In 12 games he batted .200 (5 for 25) with 3 walks.
