Albert Sayles "Hobe" Ferris was born on Friday, December 7, 1877, in Providence, RI. Ferris was 23 years old when he broke into the big leagues on April 26, 1901, with the Boston Americans.
Ferris had a 9-year career, and played SS and 2B. In 1287 games, he finished with a .239 average, 40 HR and 550 RBI.

- In 1904, Ferris helped teammates Bill Dineen, Freddy Parent, and Norwood Gibson put out a fire on the fifth floor of a Cleveland hotel. The Sox players were hailed as heros the following day.

- 1908-1909 Played 148 games each season for the St Louis Browns
- Committed 61 fielding errors in 1901
- On September 11, 1906 Ferris punched teammate Jack Hayden in the face after Hayden misplayed a ball leading to an inside-the-park home run by the Yankees' Frank LaPorte. Once separated, Ferris assaults Hayden once again by kicking him in the face. Ferris was removed from the ballpark and arrested on assault charges.
