Overall Career

Harry Donald Lord was born on March 8, 1882 in Porter, Maine. Lord was 25 years old when he broke into the big leagues on September 25, 1907 with the Boston Red Sox. He played with the Red Sox until a trade sent him to the Chicago White Sox in 1910. Following five seasons in Chicago, Lord finished his career as a player manager with Buffalo in 1915.

In a 9-year career as a third baseman, Lord finished with a .277 batting average with 14 home runs, 294 RBI and 206 stolen bases in 972 games.

  • September 25, 1910: Facing the A's in the first game of a doubleheader at Chicago’s South Side Grounds, Harry Lord has four of the five hits for the White Sox. In the second game, Lord stars again, stealing third and then swiping home on the front end of a double steal.

Trivia

  • In 1913, Lord set single-season American League records for fewest chances accepted (364) and fewest assists (221) by a third baseman in 150 or more games.
  • On March 30, 1920, Lord's South Portland, Maine grocery store is burglarized. Thieves make off with several cases of raisons and prunes.
