Overall Career

Hanley Ramirez (born December 23, 1983 in Samana, D.R.), was signed as an International FA in July of 2000. Quickly rose up the prospect ranks and flashed all 5-tools. Was a highly touted prospect throughout his minor league career making multiple appearances on Baseball America's top 100 prospect list. Was traded to the Florida Marlins as a key component in the trade that landed Josh Beckett in Boston. Even after an unimpressive season in 2005 for AA Portland, Florida elected to have him skip over AAA and become the starting SS in Florida. The move paid off big time and Hanley won the Rookie of the Year award in the National League. Since then in 2007 he's taken his game to the next level becoming one of the elite offensive SS in all of baseball. His defense is bottom tier among SS but his offensive contribution is as good as any SS in baseball right now.
