Red Sox History
In 1985, the Red Sox move from one North Carolina city to another... all the while switching leagues as well. The Sox, after a 24-year stay, moved from the Winston-Salem Red Sox of the Carolina League to Greensboro. It was their third affiliation with the city, having prior played in Greensboro in 1941-1942 (as the Greensboro Red Sox) and in 1953-1957 (as the Greensboro Patriots).
The affiliation lasted only three seasons, as the Sox moved northward to Lynchburg, Virginia and rejoining the Carolina League.
Dick Berardino, long time manager of the Elmira Pioneers, returned to the managerial helm after a one year absence with the 1987 team.
