League Information
The Golden Baseball League is dedicated to bringing professional independent baseball back to California, Nevada and Arizona. Within five to seven years, the Golden Baseball League will establish a ten to twelve team league of minor league baseball teams throughout California, Southern Oregon, Western Arizona, and Northern Mexico.
The GBL does not use the designated hitter rule; rather, pitchers bat for themselves. Player salaries range from $750 to $3,000 per month. Each team's entire payroll is less than a third of what the major league mininum is for one player ($316,000).
The GBL's presenting partner is Safeway Inc. Other investors in the GBL include Wheel of Fortune host Pat Sajak, former National Football League players Mike Sherrard and Christian Okoye, and executives from Cisco Systems, Taleo, and Draper Fisher Jurvetson, among others.
Inter-League All-Star Game
The Golden Baseball League (GBL) and the United League Baseball (ULB) will play their All-Star game against each other this season and next. The 2008 game will be played on Tuesday, July 15th in San Angelo, Texas as the San Angelo Colts host the game at the beautiful 4200 seat Foster Field.
