Glenn Everett Murray (born November 23, 1970) was drafted by in the second round of the 1989 free-agent draft by the Montreal Expos. After spending several seasons in the Expos minor league system, Murray was traded by Montreal to the Red Sox on March 23, 1994 for a player to be named later Derek Vineyard.

Murray was traded in January 1996 along with Ken Ryan and Lee Tinsley, to the Philadelphia Phillies for Rick Holyfield, Heathcliff Slocumb, and Larry Wimberly.

Overall Career

Murray was mostly a career minor league player accruing 2553 at-bats in his minor league career with a 250/342/469 line. Murray did not make an appearance higher than A ball until his 5th professional season. After his trade to the Red Sox he was immediately promoted to Pawtucket where he put up mediocre numbers for two seasons.

Murray was finally promoted to the big leagues on May 10, 1996 with the Phillies. He played 38 games in the outfield putting up a 196/250/289 line. On October 4, 1996 he was claimed off waivers by the Cincinnati Reds. He played for two seasons in the Reds minor league system before moving over to the Nashua Pride.

Murray is now the hitting coach of the Lancaster Barn Stormers.

Trivia

  • On May 20, 1998, he was the part of an unusual feat in baseball while he was playing for AAA Indianapolis in a game against Pawtucket. In the 5th inning of the game, Pete Rose Jr. hit a solo home run, Jason willims hits a 3-run home run, Murray adds a grand slam and Guillermo Garcia completes the "homer cycle" with a 2-run shot. The Indians won the game, 11-4.
