Overall Career
George King "Smiler" Murray was born on September 23, 1898, in Charlotte, NC. Murray was 23 years old when he broke into the big leagues on May 8, 1922, with the New York Yankees.
Murray had a 6-year career as a right handed pitcher. He finished with a 20-26 record, 114 Ks and a 5.38 ERA in 416.1 innings. He was unable to pitch entire games, so Murray was often relegated to middle relief. H e won a career-high seven games for the 1923 Red Sox.
