Eugene Rudolph "Half Pint" Rye hit .179 for the Red Sox over 17 games in his 1931 career year, with a .220 OBP and .179 SLG. At age 24, he played his first game on Wednesday, April 22, 1931 and extended his career through Saturday, June 6, 1931. However, it was with the Waco Cubs that he etched his name as Texas League legend. On Wednesday, August 6, 1930 at Katy Park in Waco, Texas, against the Beaumont Exporters, Rye hit 3 home runs in the 8th, a solo, a two-run, and a grand slam, for an 18 run inning, and an eventual 20-7 win.
