Overall Career
Eugene Abraham Desautels was born on June 13, 1907, in Worcester, MA. Desautels was 23 years old when he broke into the big leagues on June 22, 1930, with the Detroit Tigers.
Desautels had a 13-year career as a catcher. In 712 career games, he batted .233 with 469 hits, 3 HR and 187 RBI. He spent four seasons as a backup catcher for the Tigers and then returned to the minors for three seasons. He joined the Red Sox in 1937 and played regularly for four years. In 1938, his best season, he caught 108 games and hit .291. After the 1940 season, he was traded to the Indians and returned to his backup role.
