Overall Career

Thomas was originally the property of the Cleveland Indians, but he was traded to Boston in 1916 along with pitcher Sam Jones in the infamous Tris Speaker deal. Boston manager Bill Carrigan chose Thomas over Bill Wambsganss when completing the deal. Thomas spent 1916 in New Orleans and 1917 in Providence.

Thomas played with the Philadelphia Athletics in 1919 and 1920 plus three games with the Washington Senators in 1920 before retiring.

Thomas left the Red Sox in late June 1918 to join the Navy, but returned on a 10-day furlough to play against the Chicago Cubs in the World Series.
