Frederick Lovett Lake was a major league manager with both Boston baseball teams (Red Sox and Braves from 1908-1910). His first two years managing, he guided the Red Sox to a 110-80 record (.579 WP). Fred also played 5 in major league seasons; 48-games total that spanned over 20 years (1891-1910). He managed the 1910 Boston Braves to a 53-100 record as part player and manager. It was the first time the then 43-year-old played in the majors in over 12 years (since 1898 with the pittsburgh Pirates). The Nova Scotia, Canada native died November 24, 1931 in Boston, MA at the age of 65.
