Overall Career
Francisco "Frank" Rodriguez (born December 11, 1972 in Brooklyn, NY) a highly talented pitcher and shortstop, was the Sox's top pick in the 1990 draft. He chose to attend Howard (Texas) JC and remain a draft and follow. While at Howard, Rodriguez led all junior college players in both home runs and as a pitcher, in strikeouts. With the threat of going back into the 1991 draft (where Atlanta would have taken him #2 overall), Rodriguez ultimately signed for a $425,000 bonus.
After playing shortstop in 1991 for NY Penn league Elmira (where he hit .271, 6 HR and 31 RBIs in 67 games), Rodriguez became a full-time pitcher in 1992. By 1993 he was with AA New Britain, for whom he was 7-11, with a 3.74 ERA. He struck out 151 in 171 innings, while walking 78.
