Overall Career

Moment in the Sun

Castillo's moment in the sun? Well, that would probably be his sterling record versus the New York Yankees while with the Red Sox - in the 2001 and 2002 seasons, Castillo appeared in seven games (starting five of them) versus the Yankees. In those seven games, he went 3-1, with 18 strikeouts and 9 walks, allowing only 8 earned runs (and only 26 hits) in 37 2/3rds innings for a 1.91 ERA.

Trivia

  • On September 25, 1995, while pitching for the Chicago Cubs, Castillo pitched a one-hit shutout against the St. Louis Cardinals. Castillo strikes out 13, walks 2, and allows only a triple to Bernard Gilkey. [1]
  • SoSH members gave Castillo the nickname Lieutenant Frank. It was derived from Miami Vice character Lieutenant Martin Castillo, played by Edward James Olmos.
  • Castillo is one of two pitchers to pitch for the 2004 Red Sox without surrendering a run.
  • Now pitching for the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs in the Atlantic League.
