Profile
The Florida Collegiate Summer League is a Wood Bat Baseball League with six teams in Central Florida. It is one of the many summer Collegiate Baseball Leagues. FCSL was founded in November 2003 to provide a place in Florida for college players to play pure wood bat baseball against top-level competition, in a festive community environment. FCSL is one of eight leagues affiliated with the National Alliance of College Summer Baseball (NACSB) - an alliance of college summer wood bat leagues which operate following NCAA legislation.
FCSL is partially financially funded by Major League Baseball (MLB). As a non-profit, 501c3 corporation, FCSL mostly depends on donations from individuals, businesses and foundations in the teams’ communities.
FCSL’s mission can be summed up in one phrase, player-focused. The schedule (night games, 44 game schedule, minimal travel) is designed to allow players time during the day to work, attend summer classes or condition on their own. After only four seasons of play, FCSL is one of the top summer leagues, as recognized by Baseball America. We exist to advance college players towards their futures in professional baseball. Sixty four of our players have been drafted, a number we expect to rise as our league strengthens. We had eighteen players drafted in the 2007 MLB draft, four in the top five rounds. The baseball on the field is solid.
FCSL is all about community building. Our games are FREE ADMISSION, providing a fun, festive family evening of entertainment. Fan events, such as Rubber Chicken Chuck and Races of the Bases at every game. We partner with local non-profit and civic groups building game nights, providing a venue for them to interact with our fans and tell their stories. Our players lead reading hours for kids at the local libraries, run clinics at the civic youth summer camps, and chip in whenever they have an opportunity to become part of their community. We are honored this summer to host the U.S. Military All Stars for a week of their Red, White and Blue Tour. The only Joint armed forces baseball organization in the world, they are active soldiers playing one summer of baseball as a special assignment.
