Faithful
From SoSH
Authors:
Stewart O'Nan and Stephen King (yes, that Stephen King)
Publisher: Scribner
Date: 2004
Summary: You were probably sick of seeing this book in supermarkets, bookstores, etc. after the 2004 season. You know, the bright red one with Tek trying to rearrange A-Rod's face on the cover. It was a little weird reading this blow by blow account so soon after the fact, but I enjoyed it. I know I'll enjoy reading it in the future a bit more, as the crystal clearness of that great season begin to get a little foggy.
Although Stephen King is listed as a co-author, far more of the entries are written by O'Nan, including pages devoted to discussing his obsession with catching batting-practice balls. Still, it serves as a reminder of the roller-coaster ride that was the 2004 season, giving the day-by-day perspective of a "typical" fan. O'Nan is not the greatest sports analyst who ever lived, but there were lots of paragraphs in the book where I remembered having similar reactions, and the postseason section is not to be missed.
A book that belongs in any Sox fan's library!
