Eusebio Miguel Gonzalez Lopez (Papo) had seven plate appearances in three games for the 1918 Red Sox. That was his entire major league career.

Overall Career

In November 1913, during an exhibition tour, the Brooklyn Dodgers offered $3,000 for Gonzalez, who was hitting over .400 in the Cuban League. He played in the New York State League from 1914-17, playing for Troy, Binghamton and Binghamton-Scranton.

Gonzalez was signed by Springfield in the Eastern League in 1917. He was hitting .252 with 30 runs scored in 57 games when he was picked up by the Red Sox. He was sold back to Springfield in February 1919.

He died on February 14, 1976, in Havana, Cuba.

Moment in the Sun

Gonzalez joined the Red Sox as they began a western road trip in July 1918. He tripled in his first major league game, on July 26, 1918, at Comiskey Park.
