Eric Scott Hinske (born August 5, 1977 in Menasha, WI) wears the number 12 for the Boston Red Sox. He was acquired on August 17, 2006 from Toronto Blue Jays (for cash and a PTBNL) to add a left-handed bat to the predominantly right-handed lineup (after injuries to left-handed Trot Nixon and switch hitter Jason Varitek).

In 2002, he was Rookie of the Year with the Blue Jays, and his debut game was against the 2002 Red Sox where he went 2 for 4 with 3 RBIs on April 1st, 2002 (Red Sox/Blue Jays Opening Day) at Fenway Park. His 24 home runs this year were the most by an AL rookie since Nomar Garciaparra hit 30 in 1997

  • April 20, 2002 his first ML home run won the game for the Toronto Blue Jays in the 10th inning against the New York Yankees, to give the Blue Jays a 5-4 win. This was hit off of future embedded Yankee Ramiro Mendoza
