Eddie Kasko

Edward Michael Kasko was born on Monday, June 27, 1932, in Linden, New Jersey. Kasko was 24 years old when he broke into the big leagues on April 18, 1957, with the St. Louis Cardinals. Kasko signed with the St. Louis Browns as an amateur free agent in 1949. He batted and threw righthanded. He is a former infielder, manager, scout and front office executive.

Playing Career
Eddie Kasko was a standout defensive player as a SS and third baseman. He played for ten seasons (1957-66) with the St. Louis Cardinals, Cincinnati Reds, Houston Astros and Boston Red Sox. His career batting average was .264 in 1,077 games and 3,546 at bats.
- Was the starting SS for the National League pennant winning Cinncinati Reds team in 1961.
- Elected as a National League All-Star in 1961
- Lead the NL shortstops in fielding % with the Houston Astros in 1964.
Managing Career
Managed the Red Sox' AAA clubs in Toronto and Louisville of the International League from 1967-69. He succeeded Dick Williams as Red Sox manager in 1970, and led the team for four seasons. His final record with Boston, over four seasons, was 345-295 (.539). Kasko remained with the Red Sox for another two decades, as a scout, and then, after 1977, as the team's director of scouting and vice president, baseball development. He retired in 1994.
