Overall Career
Ed Yarnall was drafted by the New York Mets in the 3rd round of the 1996 amateur draft. He spent the 1997 season in the Mets farm system, advancing as high as AAA. In 1998 he got of to a hot start for the AA Binghamton Mets, going 7-0 with a 0.39 ERA. On May 22, 1998 he was traded by the New York Mets with Geoff Goetz and Preston Wilson to the Florida Marlins for Mike Piazza. He would continue the year splitting time between Florida's AA and AAA affiliates. On February 1, 1999 Yarnall was traded by the Florida Marlins with Todd Noel and Mark Johnson to the New York Yankees for Mike Lowell.
Yarnall started the 1999 season with the Columbus Clippers, going 13-4 with a 3.47 ERA. He made his major leage debut on July 15, pitching two innings with three hits and no runs. He would appear in five games that year for the World Champions, going 1-0 with a 3.71 ERA. Yarnall started the 2000 season in AAA and was called up to the Yankees for two games and got another World Series ring. On July 12, Yarnall was traded by the New York Yankees with Jackson Melian, Drew Henson, and Brian Reith to the Cincinnati Reds for Mike Frank and Denny Neagle. He finished the 2000 season with Cincinatti's AAA affiliate Louisville and was released by the Reds on April 2, 2001.
In 2001, the Reds sold Yarnall's contract to the Orix Blue Wave of the Japanese Pacific League for $300,000. After two average seasons in Japan, Yarnall returned to the States. On January 17, 2003 he signed as a free agent with the Oakland Athletics. He spent the entire year with Sacramento of the Pacific Coast League and was released in October of that year. On January 18, 2004 Ed Yarnall was signed as a free agent by the Boston Red Sox. He appeared in two games for Pawtucket before he was sent on April 19, 2004 to the Philadelphia Phillies by the Red Sox as part of a conditional deal. He spent the 2004, 2005 and 2006 seasons with the Phialdelphia Phillies, Washington Nationals and Kansas City Royals, respectively. Yarnall was granted free agency on October 15, 2006.
In 2007, Yarnall pitched for the Long Island Ducks of the Atlantic League and became the team's number one postseason starter.
