Overall Career
Walter Edward "Big Ed" Morris was born on December 7, 1899, in Foshee, Alabama. Morris was 22 years old when he broke into the big leagues on August 5, 1922, with the Chicago Cubs. Morris had a 5-year career as a pitcher. He finished with a record of 42-45, with 256 Ks and a 4.19 ERA in 674.0 innings. At the plate he batted .195 with 1 HR and 18 RBI in 221 at bats.
He was the ace of the last-place 1928-29 Red Sox, and later injured his arm during a scuffle in a St. Louis hotel elevator. He was stabbed to death at a Florida fish fry before spring training in 1932.
