Overall Career
Edward William McFarland was born on August 3, 1874, in Cleveland, Ohio. McFarland was 18 years old when he broke into the big leagues on July 7, 1893, with the Cleveland Spiders.
McFarland had a 14-year career as a catcher. In 894 games, he batted .275 with 826 hits, 13 HR and 383 RBI. McFarland was a fine fielder, leading NL catchers in assists and fielding percentage in 1900 while batting .305. He jumped to the AL White Sox in 1902 and shared catching duties with Billy Sullivan.
