Overall Career
Early "Gus" Wynn (January 6, 1920 - April 4, 1999) was a big pitcher who had no problems throwing pitches inside. Due to his tendency to brush hitters back, he gained the reputation as one of the meanest and most feared pitchers in baseball. On his way to collecting 300 wins, Early collected five 20-win seasons.

- Rumored that Early began his brushback pitching career as a rookie when Washington Senators manager Bucky Harris threatened to fine Early $25 for every batter he didn't knock down that had 2 strikes on him.
- Mickey Mantle said the Early was so mean "he'd knock you down in the dugout."
- Ted Williams said Early Wynn was the toughest pitcher he ever faced.
