Overall Career
After being selected in the first round of the 1994 amateur draft by, and playing for, the San Diego Padres, he bounced around the majors, playing for the Montreal Expos, St. Louis Cardinals, Boston Red Sox, and San Francisco Giants before coming to the White Sox. In 2005, Hermanson became the White Sox closer, pitching in 19 games without giving up a run.
Currently plagued with chronic back problems, Hermanson signed a minor league deal with the Cincinnati Reds on March 1, 2007 to compete for the closer's job. He started well, but struggled in his last few appearances, ending spring training with a 7.36 ERA. When the Reds wanted him to open the season with Triple-A Louisville, Hermanson asked for his release.
