Overall Career
Henry Homer "Doc" Gessler was born on December 23, 1880 in Greensburg, Pennsylvania. Gessler was 22 years old when he broke into the big leagues on April 23, 1903 with Brooklyn.
Gessler had a 8-year career as an outfielder. He played a total of 880 games in the major leagues with a .280 average, 14 HR, and 363 RBI. After his playing days, Gessler was the manager for the Pittsburgh Rebels in 1914.

Trivia
- One of three doctors in the 1906 World Series (with Doc White and Frank Owen), Gessler became a physician, graduating from Johns Hopkins Medical School.

- Before entering baseball, Gessler distinguished himself on the football field for Washington and Jefferson College and Johns Hopkins University.
- Led the American League in hit-by-pitches in 1910 with 16.
