Overall Career
Richard Raymond “Dick” Radatz (born April 2, 1937), nicknamed “The Monster" was the most feared pitcher in the American League from 1962 until 1965. Known for his intimidating size and sidearm fastball, Dick was one of the few stars on the poor Red Sox teams of the early 1960's. He never made a start in 381 ML games, and he retired with 122 saves.
Radatz died on March 16, 2005 after falling down the stairs of his home in Easton, MA and suffering a head injury.

- Struck out 11 of the first 12 batters he faced in his debut as a reliever.
- He holds the major league record for strikeouts in a season by a reliver when he fanned 181 for the Boston Red Sox in 1964.
- Dick's eldest son, Dick, Jr., co-founded and is principal owner and President of the Northwoods League, a successful summer college baseball league based in Rochester, MN.
