Overall Career
Richard Twilley "Twitchy" Porter was born on December 30, 1901, in Princess Anne, MD. Porter was 27 years old when he broke into the big leagues on April 16, 1929, with the Cleveland Indians. Porter had a 6-year career as an outfielder. In 675 games he batted .308 with 11 HR and 282 RBI.
In his first four years with the Indians, hit at a .300 clip, including a career-high .350 in 1930. Twice he scored more than 100 runs. He was known as Twitchy because of his batting style, he constantly wiggled, gyrated, and waved his bat.
