Dellos Clinton "Sheriff" Gainer was born on November 10, 1886, in Montrose, WV. Gainer was 22 years old when he broke into the big leagues on October 2, 1909, with the Detroit Tigers.
Gainer had a 10-year career as a first baseman. In 548 games, he batted .272 with 438 hits, 14 HR and 185 RBI.
