Professional Career
David Pauley was one of the many called upon to fill the 5th starter role in 2006 for the Boston Red Sox. Called up from Double-A Portland, Pauley made his major league debut starting at Toronto on May 31. He made two more starts, at New York against the Yankees, and his lone home start against the Texas Rangers. While not overly impressive, he showed some promise, especially against the New York Yankees, going 6.2 innings giving up 2 earned runs on 8 hits. As the other 5th starter options in 2006, notably Jason Johnson, Kyle Snyder, and Lenny DiNardo also struggled, David was a possible candidate for being called back up, until he was placed on the 60 day DL on August 29, 2006.
David started 2007 at Triple-A Pawtucket.

Scouting Report
- SoxProspects Scouting Report
- Pauley mixes an excellent sinker with a low 90s fastball with good movement, a good changeup, and a top-notch curveball. Has 4th or 5th starter potential. Has been very consistent in recent seasons, with some flashes of brilliance. Struggled in MLB Spring Training in 2006. Needs to improve his control somewhat.
