Dave Niehaus

Dave Niehaus (b. February 19, 1935) has been the radio voice of the Seattle Mariners since their inception in 1977.
Broadcasting Biography
Niehaus was born in Princeton, Indiana and graduated from Indiana University in 1957. Like Mel Allen, Niehaus's broadcasting career got started on Armed Forces Radio. In 1969, Niehaus joined Dick Enberg on the California Angels broadcasting team, later joined by Don Drysdale. In 1977, Niehaus was handpicked by Seattle Mariners owner Danny Kaye to be the fledgling team's lead radio announcer. Despite broadcasting for the team during some truly abysmal seasons, Niehaus has remained upbeat and popular with the fans.
Niehaus has twice been named Washington Sportscaster of the Year and was inducted into the Mariners Hall of Fame in 2000. He thew out the ceremonial first pitch before the opening game of Safeco Field on July 15, 1999.
Niehaus received the Ford C. Frick Award from the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2008.
