Overall Career

Daniel Knowles MacFayden was born on June 10, 1905, in North Truro, MA. MacFayden was 21 years old when he broke into the big leagues on August 25, 1926, with the Boston Red Sox.

MacFayden had a 17-year career as a right handed pitcher. He finished with a record of 132-159, 797 Ks and a 3.96 ERA in 2,706 innings. He compiled losing records with four straight last-place Red Sox teams before going 16-12 to help them out of the cellar in 1931. After beginning the 1932 season 1-10, he was sold to the Yankees. After his playing career, MacFayden was a longtime coach at Bowdoin College. His teams there won eight Maine collegiate championships.
