Damon Scott Berryhill (born December 3, 1963 in South Laguna, California) was a catcher who spent 10 seasons in the major leagues. He appeared in 82 games for the Boston Red Sox in 1994.

Overall Career

Drafted by the Chicago Cubs with the fourth pick of the 1984 Amateur Draft, Berryhill relegated Jody Davis to the bench after being called up by the Cubs in 1988. He hit .257 with 5 home runs and 41 RBI in 1989, but missed almost half the season with injuries. After a trade sent him to the Atlanta Braves in 1991, Berryhill spent the rest of his career as mainly a backup. He spent the 1994 season with the Red Sox, where he posted a line of .263/.312/.416 to go along with 6 home runs and 34 RBI.

In his 10-seasons in the big leagues, Berryhill posted a career batting line of .240/.288/.368 with 47 home runs and 257 RBI.

  • October 17, 1992: Hit a three-run home run to win Game 1 of the 1992 World Series for the Braves.
  • May 30, 1994: Hit a walkoff double to give the Red Sox a 6-5 victory over the Kansas City Royals.

  • Pokey Reese has a higher career OPS than Damon Berryhill (.659 for Reese to .656 for Berryhill).
  • Was drafted by Chicago twice. The first time was the 1983 amateur draft when the White Sox picked him in the 13th round. Berryhill was chosen a year later in the 1st round by the Cubs.
