HS Career
Finished his HS season with a .403 average, 4 homers and 21 RBIs.
Pro Career
As a pro, he showed little patience at the plate, and struck out far too often. Started 1995 with the GCL Sox, batting only .145 in 124 at bats. Hit a homer and had only one double.
At Sarasota A ball in 1997, he had 28 BB while striking out 129 times; he repeated at Sarasota in 1998 walking 25 times and struck out 109 times. In July 1998 the Red Sox traded him to the Chicago White Sox for INF Chris Snopek. Jenkins was still underperforming in A ball for Chicago in 1999 and was eventually released.
Trivia
After he left baseball, Jenkins returned to football, first as a defensive back for the University of South Carolina, and then professionally with the Miami Dolphins who had made him their 7th pick in the 2003 NFL draft, and later the Carolina Panthers.
